Terms of service

By commissioning us you agree to these terms. Failing to follow them may result in a ban from further commissions, and possibly the cancellation of your commission.

”Client/you” here refers to the commissioner/you, ”maker/us” to us here at Geckoworks, and ”fursuit/suit/part/product/commission” to the product you are ordering from us.

These terms of service are subject to change at any time without prior notice.

Disclaimer

While we do our best to vet our clients, we are not in any way responsible for what they (our past or present clients) say or do in real life or online, and we cannot be held accountable for any such actions.

It is the client’s sole responsibility to make sure they stay safe while wearing their costume, and we take no liability for damage to personnel or property while wearing costumes made by us.

Payment

  1. By paying the reservation fee (50€/~$60) in orders over 300€) you secure your slot in the queue, and tell us you’re committed to commissioning. It does count towards the full price.
    This fee is non-refundable.
  1. Before ordering furs/materials (material fee): Enough to cover the purchase of materials needs to be paid. This varies depending on what and how much materials need to be ordered. This will also count toward the final sum. Work can not be started before the material fee is paid and we have the materials in our possession.
  2. After the suit is finished the client pays the rest + shipping. Partial payments are possible but the suit won’t be shipped before it’s been fully paid.

Payment plans are by default only available for orders over 200€ (not counting shipping).
Partial payments should be larger than 200€ per payment, and the full price needs to be paid within 6 months of the first payment unless otherwise agreed upon.

For orders between 100€ and 200€, a minimum of 50% of the total sum must be paid before work will begin.

Please do not commission us if you cannot comfortably afford it.
Fursuits are a luxury item and should not be prioritised before necessities like food or housing.

We will send you an invoice on Paypal.

Bank transfer is used if you live in Finland,
and highly preferred if you live in Europe.

Bank transfer is 100% free inside the SEPA-area (most of EU), and takes 1-4 days on average. Paypal’s fees may be up to 6% of total commission value.

All prices are in Euro (€). Prices presented in other currencies in our price guide are estimates only, and will be adjusted to current market rates. A currency converter can be found here.

We do not work with minors. You may be asked to provide proof of being 18 or older, such as a passport, drivers licence or official ID-card.

Terms of cancelation

We as makers reserve the right to cancel the commission if the clients’ behaviour is deemed insulting or inappropriate, or the client refuses to perform agreed payments within the agreed timeframe. Insulting behaviour may be harassing, threatening, spreading false information about us or our work, or otherwise rude or disruptive behaviour.

We reserve the right to decline commission requests from homo-/transphobes, TERFs, racists, sexists, nazi-/alt-right supporters, zoo-/pedophiles or individuals otherwise known to exhibit toxic, inflammatory or unrespectful behaviour, as well as individuals with a history of breaking other makers’ Terms of Service’s/have bewares written about them.

We will also decline commissions where the end product will be used for sexual purposes (see ‘Work safety’ paragraph).

Refunds

If materials haven’t been ordered: The material fee is returned

If the materials have been ordered but work hasn’t been started:

  1. a) The furs/materials will be shipped to the client (the client pays the original price of the material, shipping of the material from the retailer to us and shipping from us to the client) or,
  1. b) The material fee is returned, the maker keeps the fur and/or materials.

We as makers get to decide which, based on what we have in stock and how much has been ordered.

Draft

We only accept SFW reference images.
Do not send us NSFW ref sheets/images.
Commission requests containing NSFW imagery will be refused.

For most commissions (excluding simple handpaws and other parts with no or very simple patterns) a draft, a “fursuit blueprint” where the exact details of the commission (marking placements etc.) can be drawn and provided to the client for approval before any work is started to ensure mutual understanding.

At the draft stage edits are possible and should be requested should there have been a miscommunication.

After the draft has been approved edits may not be accepted. It is the clients’ responsibility to double check that everything is correct before accepting.

Colours may appear slightly different on screen. Faux fur is also only available in a limited colour selection, and sometimes it is not possible to get the exact same shade as in the visual reference provided by the client. This will be taken into account while creating the draft, and does not qualify as an error.

In the case there is a mistake in the work that was not present in the draft approved by the client, we will attempt to fix it to our best ability.

If it’s not possible:

a) Some form of compensation (feature upgrades, accessories or the like) can be discussed or

b) A partial refund based on the level of the error can be given. The size of the refund can not exceed the material costs, must take into account the amount of error-free work put into the project and can not exceed 30% of the total price of that item. If a separate fee for the feature in which the error is located has been specified, that amount will be the (maximum) refundable amount.

In case of us cancelling the commission due to personal reasons not in any way related to the client or their behaviour, the reservation fee and all other payments will be fully or partially refunded, or any materials/finished work shipped to the client, depending on the clients’ wishes and state of completion.

Deadlines

We do not work with deadlines. Any discussed dates are approximates only, and missing them do not entitle for refund/compensation.

One of our two team members is a scatterbrained full-time student, and we work whenever there is time. We strive to constantly improve our techniques and provide only the best quality we can offer, and rushing orders could negatively impact that quality.

Shipping

The client is responsible for all shipping and possible import fees.
Shipping is not included in any of our prices unless otherwise specified.

It is the clients’ responsibility to check that the provided address is correct. When the shipment leaves us, we are no longer in control of it. We are not responsible for how the postal service(s) handle(s) the shipment.

We do our best to ensure that the shipment arrives unharmed. In the rare and unfortunate case that the shipment would be lost or damaged due to rough handling or error on behalf of the postal services, no refunds by us are given, and compensation requests should be directed towards the postal service in charge of delivering the shipment.

We refuse to ship anything over the value of 300€ untracked and/or without full shipping insurance.

In case of damage we will provide assistance/instructions on how to repair the product to the degree possible.

For some smaller items (handpaws, collars, DIY items) it may be possible to ship untracked due to it being more affordable. The client is always informed about the risks of shipping untracked, and given the option to pay for tracked shipping.

Character copyright

If the client fails to pay for their commission despite being prompted to do so multiple times and no agreement over payment plans can be reached, or in case they stop responding altogether and won’t pick up contact over the course of 4 months, the suit will be auctioned or sold to someone else. It may or may not be modified, and no liability over character copyright infringement will be taken. This applies to all (finished or unfinished) work. By commissioning us you agree to this, and free us of any responsibility over the matter, were you to behave in the way stated in this section.

We only accept commissions of characters that the commissioner is the rightful owner of. This includes copyrighted characters (for example Disney, Pokémon) or original characters that belong to someone else (even if consent by the character owner has been given).

If you wish to commission a custom gift for someone of their character, you may pay for the commission, but all contact thereafter should be between us and the recipient. An exclusion can be made if the design is generic enough that it can’t be copyrighted/claimed (for example single-coloured handpaws or tail).
This exception is discussed on a case-to-case basis.

We also refuse to copy another makers’ style or a character that doesn’t belong to the commissioner; please don’t send us a picture of a suit made by another maker and ask us to copy it.

We try to screen our commissions to the best of our ability and decline commissions with stolen character designs, but as the fandom is quite large we cannot possibly know of all original characters. If the client is caught using a stolen design, the commission will instantly be put on hold. If the client refuses to change the design, the commission will be cancelled (see refund policy, “if the client causes commission cancelling”) and the commissioner will be blacklisted from future commissions.

Credits

You agree to credit us (Geckoworks) as makers. This also applies if you modify, refurbish or resell the suit. (In case of refurbishment you may (and should) of course credit the refurbisher for their work as well).

We use patterns by Kloofsuits, Curlworks, Freakhound, Missrars, Matrices, FurSmoothie and others for some handpaws, feetpaws and bases, and do not claim any of these as our own.

Work safety

We only make “safe for work”/family friendly fursuits & props. Thus we kindly ask you to not post images of Geckoworks-made fursuits or fursuit parts in sexual situations/acts, tag us in such content or mention us on NSFW accounts online.

“No Safe For Work” fursuit-content makes us very uncomfortable, and we reserve the right to decline commissions by individuals involved in the production of such content. We put a lot of time and effort into our work, and wish to be able to follow up on our past projects without having to stumble upon content that makes us uncomfortable. This also applies to props like the Gigabean paw-shaped pillow.

If you plan on primarily using your suit/prop in sexual situations, there are many makers who are comfortable with this that you may consider commissioning instead.

If you contact us on Twitter using a NSFW / “AD” profile featuring primarily adult material of the character you’re looking to use for your commission, or real-life sexual/suggestive fursuit or furry-themed content, it is very likely that your commission will be declined. This also applies to “hidden” profiles where we cannot view your profile.

We ask you to please be upfront about this. In some situations a compromise can be reached, but that requires honesty about the intended end use of the product.

Involving our products in NSFW activities will void all warranties and result in the client being blacklisted from further commissions.
We also decline repair on suits/parts used in such a way.

Maintenance / repair

We take great care in only providing the best quality we can offer, but despite that some wear & tear might happen over time (popped seams, airbrushing fading with wash etc). We will happily provide instructions for how they can be fixed.

We’re also open to performing maintenance/adjustments/refurbishment on suits we’ve made. We generally don’t provide these services on suits made by other makers.

The owner of the suit is responsible for shipping both to and from us.

This warranty is voided and we decline repair/maintenance on suits if the suit or any of its parts:

(a) have been heavily modified by someone other than us (excluding fixing popped seams/small wear & tear fixes)

(b) have at any point used in a sexual way or been in contact with bodily secretions/genitals (even if washed) or

(c) been deliberately soiled, neglected, dirtied or broken.

All suits to be returned to us for repair must be washed and dried correctly prior to shipping. This applies to all parts which are in contact with the wearer (tails may be excluded if the fur is not otherwise dirty).

We will provide you with washing & drying instructions if you’re unsure.
A washing service for some parts may also be provided upon request. Price and availability of the washing service is discussed on a case-to-case basis.

Please do not send anything back to us without discussing it first.
For unwashed or incorrectly washed parts sent to us for repair, a 50-100€ washing fee will be charged before returning the product.

Allergy warning

We have a cat in the workspace. We do our best to keep her away from the materials (she really loves to sleep on the furs however).

Please inform us if you are very allergic to cats or other furred animals so we can take extra precautions. If your allergy is very sensitive, you can machine wash parts (excluding heads, feet and airbrushed items) prior to initial wear.

Finally

It is the clients’ responsibility to make sure that they understand the policies outlined in this document before agreeing to it. “I did not know what that meant” does not exempt you from following these Terms of Service.

If there is any part of this document that you do not understand, please ask us about it! We are happy to help with translation (to the best of our ability), or otherwise explain any part of this document to you.

This being said, thank you for considering us.
We are looking forward to working with you!

Geckoworks Fursuits,
V. Gaviria & S. Holmström
